The Shakti Peetha: An Icon of Sacred Strength
The Shakti Peetha at Baba Baidyanath Dham is related to Sati, Lord Shiva's wife. Shiva moved her self-immolated body around the country in grief. Shakti Peethas appeared everywhere her body fell. The Hriday Peeth, or Heart Shrine, in Deoghar is where Sati's heart apparently dropped. This Shakti Peetha features Jaya Durga, Parvati's manifestation.
